Their suitability depends on whether the interface is dry, damp or otherwise conditioned, and on the manufacturer’s declared open time and bonding performance. Surface preparation is especially important: dust, laitance, oil and weak concrete prevent reliable adhesion. A cured, glossy epoxy film may require different treatment from a still-tacky bonding layer.
Epoxy does not compensate for unsound concrete or inadequate reinforcement anchorage. Mixing ratio and temperature-controlled pot life are critical quality controls.
Typical applications
Some products are used for bonding fresh concrete to existing hardened concrete, but the new material must be placed within the permitted tack or open-time window.
Before you use it
- The engineer should verify compatibility with structural loads, temperature and expected movement.
General technical guidance. Final product selection, dosage and system details are confirmed from the manufacturer data sheet and a site assessment.
