It can reduce demolition in refurbishment projects, but it is suitable only where the original finish is firmly bonded, structurally sound and free from contaminants. Cleaning, mechanical abrasion or a proprietary primer may be required by the adhesive system. A tile-on-tile adhesive does not correct underlying waterproofing failure or a moving substrate.
A trial bond area is sensible for uncertain substrates.
Before you use it
- Existing tiles should be checked for hollow spots, loose sections, cracks, moisture and movement.
- The added floor height affects doors, drainage levels, thresholds and accessibility, and should be reviewed before work begins.
- The selected product must explicitly permit bonding to low-absorption glazed or vitrified surfaces.
General technical guidance. Final product selection, dosage and system details are confirmed from the manufacturer data sheet and a site assessment.
